SoDak Renewables is excited to welcome Vikor as our newest member! To help our community get acquainted with them, we asked Tyler Masat, Vikor's VP of Operations, a few questions about their work in the renewable energy sector, their motivations, and their perspective on South Dakota's energy future.
1. Tell us about your organization. What does your organization do, and how does it contribute to the renewable energy sector?
Vikor is a teleconstruction company headquartered right here in Sioux Falls. We contribute directly to the renewable energy sector through dedicated divisions focused specifically on wind and solar energy. Our work involves both the construction of new wind and solar facilities (new builds) and providing the essential ongoing maintenance needed to keep these renewable resources operating efficiently for South Dakotans.
2. What types of renewable energy does your organization focus on?
Our primary focus within the renewable energy sphere is on Wind and Solar projects.
3. What inspired your organization to get involved in renewable energy?
A key inspiration for Vikor was seeing a growing interest from our customers in achieving energy independence or, at the very least, significantly reducing their dependence on the traditional power grid. We recognized this desire for greater control over energy sources. Furthermore, the availability of government grants and incentives has certainly played a helpful role in supporting our involvement and facilitating the development of these important projects.
4. What motivated you to become a member of SoDak Renewables?
As a new member, our main motivation for joining SoDak Renewables is the invaluable opportunity to connect and network with fellow professionals, businesses, and leaders within South Dakota's dynamic renewable energy industry. We recognize that this sector is continuously growing and is clearly here to stay. Building strong relationships is crucial in such an evolving field – as Tyler mentioned, "you can't know too many good people." We see membership as essential for fostering these vital connections and collaborations.
5. What developments in South Dakota’s renewable energy future are you most excited about?
We are particularly looking forward to the continued education of both consumers and businesses across South Dakota about the real-world benefits and practicalities of renewable energy. There's a significant opportunity to help people understand that choosing to install renewables, like solar, is often fundamentally a smart 'cash flow exercise' driven by long-term savings and energy cost stability. We're excited to see a growing understanding that separates this practical energy decision from political viewpoints.

6. Can you share a recent project, partnership, or initiative that you’re particularly proud of?
We're certainly proud of several recent projects where we've successfully installed solar arrays for local farmers. It's incredibly rewarding to see them achieve substantial reductions in their energy expenditures – in some instances, their bills have been 'reduced to nearly zero.' These projects are tangible proof of the energy independence and significant cost savings that renewable energy solutions can deliver right here in South Dakota.
