1. Tell us about your organization. What does your organization do, and how does it contribute to the energy sector?
Antora Energy delivers zero-emission steam to ethanol plants from thermal batteries made here in the USA. We’re proud to partner with ethanol producers to lower their Carbon Intensity (CI) and unlock new revenue streams, all while keeping local energy production powering the South Dakota economy. We fund, own, and operate our plants, so producers pay roughly the same for steam as they pay for fuel today.
2. What types of energy does your organization focus on?
Our thermal energy storage technology soaks up nearby, low-cost clean electricity, stores that energy for days on end, and provides reliable, round-the-clock steam to ethanol producers—removing reliance on external energy supply chains and pipelines.
3. What inspired your organization to get involved in the energy sector? Share any key moments or motivations that sparked your organization’s commitment to the sector.
It started from a recognition that there’s actually a lot of cheap, clean electricity in places like South Dakota—it’s just in the wrong place at the wrong time. That’s an incredible opportunity, and it fits seamlessly with what the ethanol industry has already mastered: taking what farmers grow to make fuel that’s better for our health and our communities. We were inspired to provide a solution that aligns with that mission, ensuring South Dakota fuel is sourced from local crops and local energy.
4. What motivated you to become a member of SoDak Renewables? How does your membership support your goals?
Our goal is to help producers in South Dakota use local, untapped power to make low-CI ethanol. Being part of this association supports our collective mission to make use of local energy, support local industry, and uplift the surrounding agricultural community.
5. What developments in South Dakota’s energy future are you most excited about? What changes or innovations do you look forward to seeing in South Dakota’s energy landscape?
We are most excited to see South Dakota’s electric utilities and ethanol producers working closely together. As a result, South Dakota’s ethanol will be able to access premium & emerging low-carbon fuel markets (LCFS, Canadian CFR, SAF) while bringing benefits that flow to the whole ag economy.
6. Can you share a recent project, partnership, or initiative that you’re particularly proud of? Tell us about a recent initiative your organization is working on and the impact it’s having on the sector.
Antora is actively developing projects with ethanol producers across the Midwest and is already shipping thermal batteries to our first major commercial project, a multi-GWh installation. We’re excited to share more details on Antora’s projects in the coming months.
